Pro Football Focus hasn't always been kind to the Houston Texans , but they seem to be turning over a new chapter with the emergence of several young and promising foundational pieces. PFF recently finished its top 101 players list for the 2025 season, naming the best players based on their metrics and on-field play. While players like cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. and defensive end Will Anderson Jr.
have yet to be named, that doesn't mean they won't land in the top 25 when the list is released next week. As for current names, second-year cornerback Kamari Lassiter made the list just ahead of former Texans offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil at No. 55. Following a year of growth in coverage, the former second-round pick proved to be one of the league's rising stars and top corners.
"Lassiter was the seventh-highest-graded cornerback in the league (79.8) in his second NFL season," PFF wrote.
"His combined 18 pass breakups and interceptions in the regular season and playoffs led all cornerbacks, and he also posted the third-best PFF run-defense grade at the position (84.9)." In 2024, Lassiter earned his way onto the field as an outside corner after initially being considered a starter at the nickel position. He notched four interceptions and 10 pass breakups while mirroring most No. 2 targets.
A year later, Lassiter was able to handle going up against premier wideouts, holding his own in man coverage while only allowing one touchdown reception. He also finished tied for second among cornerbacks in pass deflections with 17. A year from now, the Texans could be tied with having to pay for Lassiter's service beyond 2027.
For now, he's only entering Year 3 with a chance to become one of the league's top cornerbacks amid a run toward a Super Bowl title.
