Freddie Freeman said wants to play baseball for four more seasons before retiring, and he wants to spend those final years with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Freeman will be 40 years old in four seasons. The Dodgers are currently in spring training and will have its first game against the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday at Camelback Ranch.
Freeman, who has two years remaining on the six-year, $162 million contract he signed with the Dodgers in 2022, spoke to reporters about his retirement plans on Thursday. Freeman said he loves Los Angeles and wants to finish his career there. In order to play until he is 40, he will need to sign another contract.
Although he hopes to re-sign with the Dodgers, Freeman said he will not ask for a new contract but will return if the franchise wants him. “It’s out of my control. I’m not worried about another contract, I’m not going to bring it up, not going to talk about it,” Freeman told reporters. “I’ve got two years left. I’m just an employee. I just do my job, and if they want me back, they want me back.
But I think Andrew (Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman) and everyone knows I love being here.” Freddie Freeman says he wants to finish his career with the Dodgers. That would require a new contract at some point: "I love being here. I'm from Southern California.

Freeman said he would like to reach 3,000 career hits before retiring. He currently has 2,179 career hits, which is the most for any active MLB player.
If he is able to hit the 3,000-hit mark, he will join an exclusive group of 33 former players who have recorded at least 3,000 hits in MLB history. The most recent addition to the 3,000-hits club was Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera in April 2022. Cabrera retired from MLB in 2023.
